href="http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/democrats-withdraw-objections-clearing-the-way-for-greens-791200.html">who paid for a $532,000 petition drive to get a Green Party candidate in the governor’s race.

But really, deductive reasoning already told us who did it, right? The Green Party is sometimes said to be left of the Democrats’ liberal wing. A Green gubernatorial candidate would not pull votes from faux tea-bagger incumbent GOP Gov. Rick Perry. Those votes would be siphoned straight from Democratic challenger and former Houston Mayor Bill White.

In a court hearing last month, former UT student Garrett Mize said lobbyist Mike Toomey, Perry’s close ally and former chief of staff, personally paid him to try to gather signatures for the Greens. Stuart Moss, who worked at the time for former Perry speech writer Eric Bearse, put Toomey and Mize in touch, Mize said.

An e-mail that Democrats obtained through their lawsuit showed that Republican operative Anthony Holm was in contact with Green Party officials as they tried to gather signatures this year. Holm’s company, the Patriot Group, received more than $90,000 from Perry’s campaign last year for technology consulting, although Holm said he was not involved with the firm’s work for Perry.

The gun is smoking, and it’ll be very interesting to trace that $532,000.

But think about it. Could Perry pals Mikey Toomey, Stuart Moss and Anthony Holm pull off something so Rovian without the governor’s knowledge?

The question isn’t whether Rick Perry’s fingerprints are all over this fiasco, but rather why Rick Perry is so fearful of the outcome of the Democratic process.

New Headquarters

Blog
<guid

Just when you think the future of the Democratic Party looks a little bleak, nationally, someone in the Party of the Dark Side does something really, really stupid.

Stupid as in speaking one’s mind from the very heart and core of their being.

This week, Kentucky’s Republican Party nominee for US Senate, Rand Paul opened his mouth and did just that. Not once, but three times (four if you count his “final appearance on this subject” on Good Morning America this morning).

Delivering a miracle to his Democratic opponent. Delivering it on a silver platter.

Rand Paul, dressed in his best Libertarian ideals, came down against Title II of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The part that deals with the private sector. The part that tells lunch counter owners that not only can people of any race, creed or national origin sit and eat and drink whatever they can pay for in their establishment, they have to let them use their restroom as well.

Rand Paul thinks that it is perfectly okey-dokey to discriminate against another human being based on racial hatred because this is within their right to associate with whomever they choose (or obviously not associate with people they don’t like for some reason).

This is Libertarianism at its finest.

Jack Conway, who won in the Democratic primary, must be living a charmed life to be given this freebie. Most people who are alive now don’t know or remember what it was like to have segregated businesses. Most people are shocked to hear about it when it happens – a rarity these days, thankfully.

God has a sense of humor. He also likes Democrats. Otherwise He wouldn’t have given us Rand Paul.
