Silver Democrats of Fort Bend
Gordon Quan and Dreamers Speak at Silver Democrats Meeting
The Silver Democrats sponsored a presentation on Immigration Reform Legislation featuring prominent attorney, Gordon Quan of Foster Quan Saturday June 15, 2013. Gordon has been at the forefront lobbying congress to pass a reasonable bill. He flew back from Washington D.C. Friday night to give us a clear view of the proposal and its progress.
Also participating were two Dreamers, Cesar Espinosa, a graduate of the University of Houston, and Edwin Castillo, just admitted to Texas A&M. Both are outstanding students brought over from Mexico at a very young age and are beneficiaries of the “Stay of Action” executive order of President Obama issued one year ago today, giving them temporary legal status and stay against deportation. Their temporary legal status still prevents them from travel to see their parents and grandparents. If Immigration Reform is not enacted, they would be deported.
We must legalize the status of some 11 million undocumented resident immigrants and expand the guest worker program. We hope that we Democrats will be joined by good Republicans to do the right thing both for those families hiding in the shadows and for the benefits to our country.
