Ushering in a new era of inclusiveness and activism, newly elected Fort Bend County Democratic Chairman Steve Brown took his oath of office in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the historic 240th District courtroom in Richmond. His brief speech was a promise of leadership, work, unity, victory, and fun in Fort Bend Democratic politics. Brown took the oath accompanied by his wife, Monique Brown and his parents, Steve and Velma Brown.
The oath to Brown and 50 precinct chairs was administered by The Honorable Judge Joel Clouser. Judge Clouser welcomed the new precinct chairs and challenged them to turn Fort Bend County blue in 2010.
Brown stressed, “all of us want an active and fully engaged party structure – a party that can support and grow local Democratic clubs of all stripes and flavors. A party that facilitates precinct level activism and provides leadership to our precinct chairs. A party with resources to promote our countywide slate of candidates, and can execute the goals and objectives of a coordinated campaign. I think we’re primed to make great strides this election cycle, and I’m ready to work with you to achieve our goals.”
His remarks were followed by a standing ovation.
Among the dignitaries to welcome Brown into his new role were the county chairs form Harris County, Gerry Birnberg; Washington County, Duane Olney; and Brazoria County, Sue Funkhouser. Also attending were The Honorable Judge Morris Overstreet, The Honorable County Commissioner Grady Prestage, and the Honorable Constable Ruben Davis. All three of The State Democratic Executive Committee senatorial districts in Fort Bend were represented by Don Bankston representing 18, John Robert Behrman and Mary Seymore representing 13, and Alan Blakley and Carol Wright representing 17.
The swearing-in was followed by a packed house at a local restaurant for food, fellowship and fun.
